Selebrities performs “Living Dead” at the Mercury Lounge, NYC
So I have been saving up this clip from the Brooklyn band Selebrities for just the right moment. I immediately recognized singer Maria Usbeck from her other excellent band Soda Shop. Her voice is so beautiful and can meld into many genres of music quite seamlessly. In Soda Shop she packs a pure doo-wop wallop while Selebrities makes what they refer to as “voguish summertime goth.” Personally I love it all.
Reflecting again on Selebrities and their most recent full length release “Delusions” I also realize that this is a big moment for me and their record label Cascine. I have been listening to their velvety voiced label mate Chad Valley constantly since CMJ ‘11. I also love Evan Voytas’ dreamy and transporting melodies too. It seems I am hooked on synths at the close of 2011. Who knows what 2012 will bring. I can’t wait to find out…
